Stock Pickup Rules

Promotions Limited Representing

General Rules

All vehicles must be street legal.   Fenders must cover all wheels.
Fuel must be gasoline, diesel or propane.
Vehicles which are deemed unsafe will be disqualified by the Tech Inspectors
Vehicles may enter only one class and be entered only once at an event.
Working seat belts are required and must be worn.
All drivers must wear a helmet and it must be securely fastened.   No passengers.
Open exhaust is allowed
No portion of the fuel system can be inside the cab
Blocking of the suspension is allowed
4 wheel drive is recommended but not required
Tires must be street legal as determined by the Tech Inspectors ruling-no boots, vulcanized spots or recaps allowed.
No weight may be more than 60 inches beyond the centerline of the front axle
No tire chains are allowed - dual tires are allowed.
Pull to start with a tight chain-jerking of the sled will result in disqualification.
No shifting of manual transmissions during the run - results in disqualification.
A firewall must exist between the driver and the engine.  Engine must be in stock location.
Fuel tank must be securely fastened, and cannot be mounted above the exhaust if in other than stock location.
No Nitrous Oxide permitted
Turbochargers and Super Chargers are allowed.
Hitch height - maximum of 26 inches - cannot be exceeded before/during/after run.
Hitch - No trailer hitch balls allowed - must be clevis or an opening a minimum of 4 inches in diameter and securely mounted to the vehicle.

Weight Class

Light Class: Weight not to exceed 5200 lbs.
Heavy Class: Weight not to exceed 6200 lbs.
Super-Heavy Class: Weight exceeding 6200 lbs. - ran as exhibition - if at least two entries are received that cannot make the 6200 lbs weight.  Trophies are not usually awarded for this class.

 

RMPA reserves the right to limit the number of stock entries if necessary.  In case of limitation, members of the RMPA will be given first notification and priority for available spots prior to day of event, any spots not immediately confirmed to be filled according to date and time of contact from interested party.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN PULLERS ASSOCIATION

GENERAL RULES

ALL CLASSES MUST HAVE THREE (3) PARTICIPANTS TO RUN AS AN INDIVIDUAL CLASS

 

STOCK DIESEL RULES

o       Weight limit is 8000 lbs.  No hanging weights extending beyond the vehicle and no added weight allowed inside the cab.

o       The engine is limited to a stock appearing OEM make specific compression ignition engine.

o       Intake, exhaust, and fuel enhancing modifications are allowed up to a combination of 3 modifications including only 1 fuel modification.  It is recommended to have either two 7/16” diameter bolts placed through the pipe perpendicular to each other, somewhere after the turbocharger.  The exhaust exit should be either straight up or down.

o       Fuel must be pump #1 or #2 diesel only.  Soy/Bio-diesel fuel is acceptable.

o       Fuel injection pumps are limited to a stock appearing OEM engine model specific pump only.  The use of multiple high-pressure common-rail fuel pumps is prohibited.

o       Nitrous Oxide, Propane, Water/Methanol is prohibited.  All system components must be removed from the truck or bottles removed and lines capped after the solenoids.

o       Limited to 1 turbocharger that must be stock, OEM make-specific charger only.

o       The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full bed floor, the body must retain sheet metal, after market hood are allowed.

o       Visual modification are allowed, i.e. lift, tires, wheels etc.

o       The hitch must be a receiver style hitch attached to the frame OE position only; Reinforcements are allowed.  26” maximum hitch height.  The hooking point will be measured to the center of the clevis loop.

o       D.O.T. street legal tires only, no bar tires or cut tires.

o       Solid or blocked suspensions are not allowed.

o       Air bags are allowed.

o       A fire extinguisher is recommended and must be securely mounted within reach of the driver.

o       RMPA General Rules Apply.


 

SUPER STOCK DIESEL

o       8000 lbs weight limit.

o       Each vehicle must be street legal.

o       Hanging weights are allowed but cannot extend more than 60 inches from centerline of front axle.  No weights in the cab or under the hood.  Weight in the bed must be secured.

o       OEM engine required.  Engine is restricted to 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder compression ignition engines.  The engine block must have been available as a factory option on 1 ton or smaller pickup trucks.

o       Water injection is allowed. Nitrous oxide, propane, and alcohol/methanol are not allowed.

o       Turbo-charges are limited to 1 single charger with a maximum inducer size of 2.8 inches measured at the smallest diameter area of the compression wheel.  No bushing may be used.

o       Fuel must be pump #1 or #2 diesel fuel only. Soy/Bio-Diesel Fuel is allowed.

o       OEM transmissions and transfer cases are allowed.  No after market gearboxes.

o       Exhaust must have either two 7/16” bolts placed through the pipe perpendicular to each other, or a screen of the exact pipe diameter placed somewhere after the turbocharger.  The exhaust exit will be either straight up or straight down.

o       The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full bed floor.  The body must retain full sheet metal.  After market hoods are allowed.

o       The hitch must be a receiver style hitch attached to the frame; Reinforcements are allowed with no bars going forward.  26” maximum hitch height.  The hitching point will be measured to the center of the clevis loop.

o       D.O.T. street legal tires only.  No bar tires or cut tires.

o       It is recommended that each vehicle have at least 6 inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joint constructed of at least ¼” steel or 3/8 inch aluminum.  Each shield will safely contain the u-joint and the end of the rear shaft.  All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle.  Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the vehicle must also be shielded in the same manner.

o       An operational fire extinguisher is recommended to be within reach of the driver or track crew.

o       RMPA general rules apply.

 

 

MODIFIED DIESEL

  o       8000 lbs weight limit.

o       Hanging weights is allowed but cannot extend more than 60 inches from the centerline of the front axle.  No loose weights in cab or under the hood.  Weights in the bed must be secured.

o       Maximum wheelbase is 180 inches

o       The engine is restricted to 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder compression ignition engines with a maximum of 460 cubic inches.  The engine block must have been available as a factory option in 1 to or smaller pickup trucks.  An SFI rated dampener is recommended.

o       Maximum of 2 turbo-charges.  Turbos must be completely enclosed in the engine compartment.

o       Nitrous oxide is prohibited.

o       Water injection is allowed.  Commercially available pump lube is allowed.

o       Fuel must be pump #1 or #2 Diesel Only.  Soy/Bio-diesel fuels is allowed.

o       All tanks, lines, pumps, valves, etc must be located outside the driver compartment and within the confines of the frame and/or steel body.  Fuel pressure gauge isolators, with steel-braided line, may be mounted on the firewall.

o       Any sealed cooling system is permitted.  Exhaust must have either a 7/16” diameter bolt placed through the pipe perpendicular to each other, or a screen of the exact pipe diameter placed in the pipe(s) somewhere after the turbo-charger(s).  Exhaust must be directed away from the fuel tank and driver and exit straight up or down.

o       Vehicles must have adequate stopping power.

o       The hitch must be constructed of solid material that is properly attached and braced.  26” maximum hitch height.  The hitching point will be measured to the center of the clevis loop and not shorter than O.E.

o       Any truck body style is allowed, but the body must retain the full body appearance.  Doors must functional.

o       The vehicle must be equipped with one seat for the driver; it must be securely installed with minimum O.E. seat belt.

o       Each vehicle must be equipped with OEM or minimum .024 inch thick  steel firewall extending from side to side of the body and from top of the engine compartment’s seal (hood, cowl, deck) to the bottom of the floor and/or belly pan.  All openings must be sealed, excluding grommets.

o       Each vehicle must be equipped with an OEM or minimum .024 inch thick steel floor pan that extends the full length and width of the driver’s compartment.

o       Each vehicle must have at least 6-inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joint constructed of at least ¼ inch steel or 3/8 inch aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and the end of the rear shaft.  All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle.  Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the vehicle must be shielded in the same manner.

o       Air or fuel shut-off is required consisting of (1) cable/switch to the rear of the truck to be operated by the sled, and also a cable/switch inside the driver’s compartment.

o       D.O.T. street legal tires only.  Cut or pulling tires are prohibited.

o       Solid or blocked suspensions are allowed.

o       Aftermarket transmissions and transfer cases are allowed with  SFI bell housing or transmission blanket.

o       A fire extinguisher in working condition is required to be within reach of the driver.

o        RMPA general rules apply.

 

 

SUPER MODIFIED DIESEL

o       Weight limit is 8000 lbs.

o       Any diesel engine is allowed.  Unlimited turbos or superchargers.

o       Nitrous oxide, propane, water and alcohol injection are allowed not to exceed 200 HP.

o       Mechanical or electronics fuel injection permitted.

o       Front disc brakes are mandatory.

o       Aftermarket transmissions are transfer cases are allowed.  An SFI 4.1 approved or better, full-length safety blanket must cover all automatic transmissions.

o       Bell housing must be SFI approved.

o       Exhaust must have either two 7/16” diameter bolts placed through the pipe perpendicular to each other, or a screen of the exact pipe diameter placed in the pipe(s) somewhere after the turbocharger(s).  Exhaust(s) must exit either straight up or straight down.

o       Wheelbase shall not exceed 154”.

o       26” maximum hitch height.

o       The hitch must be rigid in all directions and solidly mounted to the frame.

o       Only pulling tires will be allowed.  Maximum 112”.

o       Hanging weights are allowed but cannot extend more than 60 inches from centerline of front axle.  No loose weights in cab or under the hood will be allowed.  All weights will be secured.

o       All trucks will have a 360 degree metal shield around the universal joints, 5/16” steel or 3/8” aluminum.  Minimum width to be 6 inches.  Clearance should not exceed 2 inches between shield and universal joint.  Shield should not be butt-welded or seam-welded.

o       All trucks must have three (3) round metal loops shielding on each drive shaft.  A two-piece drive shaft must have 6 loops.  A 360-degree loop must be a minimum of 3/8” wide or wider, and not more than 2 inches from the shaft in any direction.  End loops must be placed no farther than 6 inches from universal joints, with a third loop in the center of the shaft, or it can be a solid tube (5/16” steel or 3/8” aluminum) meeting the above requirements.  No cast metal is permissible.

o       From the point of the hook to the centerline of the rear axle shall be no less than 36% of the pickup or van wheelbase.

o       Safety hitch is required.

o       Axles and hub bolt shields are required on all rear ends unless it is a planetary drive rear end.  The minimum of 1/16” (0.060) thick steel.  The hub bolts should be shielded on both front and rear axles.  The mounting shield cannot be mounted to the axle end or the hub bolts.  A hole may be installed in the center of the front shields so the lock can be operated, so long as the hub or axel bolts are covered.

o       Vertical bumpers are required to prevent the vehicle from passing over the buck board of the sled while backing up to the hook or in hook.  Bumpers must be of rigid construction.

o       A neutral safety switch light system is required on all pulling vehicles.  A white light, automotive quality, minimum 2 inches in diameter, must be mounted directly above or below safety kill switch at the rear of  the vehicle.  A light in the drivers compartment must be operated off the same system.  Both lights are to be activated by the shift lever so the lights will be lit only when the vehicles is in neutral.

o       Air and fuel shutoff’s required-consisting of (1) cable switch to the rear of the truck to be operated by the sled, and also a cable/switch inside the driver’s compartment.

o       Solid suspensions are allowed.

o       All drivers must wear a minimum SFI spec approved fire suit.

o       Seat belts and helmet, minimum snell 75 are required.

o       A fire extinguisher in working condition is required to be within easy reach of the driver.

o       All standard safety construction rules apply

o       RMPA general rules apply.
